New Audi A2 e-tron: Efficiency Meets Everyday Electric Mobility

Audi is preparing to welcome back an iconic name with the new Audi A2 e-tron, an all-electric compact model designed around efficiency, practicality and intelligent technology.

Set to make its world premiere in autumn 2026, the new A2 e-tron takes inspiration from the forward-thinking philosophy of the original Audi A2 while reimagining it for the electric era.

Designed for Outstanding Efficiency

Efficiency is at the heart of the new Audi A2 e-tron.

The A2 e-tron 140 kW with efficiency package achieves preliminary WLTP energy consumption of just 12.8 kWh/100 km, equivalent to approximately 4.85 mi/kWh.

With a drag coefficient of just 0.24, it is also the most aerodynamic model in Audi's compact range.

Its streamlined shape combines a rounded front, flowing roofline and sharply defined rear with a series of carefully engineered aerodynamic features. These include air curtains, gap reducers and an active cool-air intake designed to manage airflow around the vehicle.

Together, these measures can reduce WLTP energy consumption by up to 0.9 kWh/100 km compared with an equivalent vehicle without the efficiency enhancements.

Smarter Aerodynamics

The A2 e-tron's active cool-air intake remains closed during normal driving and at higher speeds, helping to reduce aerodynamic drag and maximise efficiency.

When additional cooling is required, such as during charging, rapid acceleration or warmer weather, the system automatically opens to help protect the battery and electrical components.

This intelligent approach allows the A2 e-tron to balance aerodynamic performance with the cooling requirements of its electric drivetrain.

A More Efficient Electric Drive

Audi has focused on making the A2 e-tron's electric drive system as efficient as possible.

The permanently excited synchronous motor has been engineered specifically for efficiency and everyday driving comfort, with improvements made across the power electronics, electric motor and transmission.

Silicon carbide semiconductor technology helps reduce electrical losses, while changes to the motor construction allow it to operate more efficiently across different speeds.

A new low-friction transmission oil and a tall 10.2:1 gear ratio further help reduce energy consumption, particularly when travelling at higher speeds.

Together, these developments make the upgraded drive system up to 10% more efficient.

61 kWh LFP Battery

The Audi A2 e-tron 140 kW features a 61 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, commonly known as an LFP battery.

Audi uses a cell-to-pack design, with the battery cells integrated directly into the housing to maximise the available space.

LFP battery technology is particularly well suited to everyday electric driving thanks to its durability, safety and resistance to ageing. It can also be routinely charged to 100%, helping drivers make full use of the available battery capacity.

An adapted cooling strategy also helps the A2 e-tron achieve 89.6% charging efficiency at a wallbox, reducing energy losses during charging.

Your Audi as an Energy Source

The new A2 e-tron will also support bidirectional charging, allowing energy stored in the vehicle's battery to be used for more than simply driving.

Vehicle-to-Load technology allows compatible external electrical devices to draw power directly from the vehicle.

Vehicle-to-Home technology takes this a step further, allowing the A2 e-tron to act as an energy storage system for the home when used with compatible charging equipment.

Vehicle-to-Home functionality will initially be available in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Availability in the UK and other markets is yet to be confirmed.
