New Mazda MX-30 R-EV Offers

A unique plug-in hybrid.

Crafted in Japan, the beautifully designed Mazda MX-30 R-EV is a plug-in hybrid like no other. Driven purely by its electric motor, it offers uninterrupted electric driving excitement with Mazda-unique handling.

The Mazda MX-30 R-EV comes equipped with a 17.8kWh battery and has a 53-mile pure electric range. It uses the all-new 830cc single-rotor petrol engine as a generator to enable longer distance drives without range or charging anxiety.

With no mechanical connection between the engine and the wheels, the rotary engine simply acts as a generator, ensuring the MX-30 R-EV always drives via the electric motor to deliver a seamless EV driving experience.

Unique Japanese Design & Charging.

Featuring its own ‘Human Modern’ interpretation of the Mazda Kodo design philosophy, the Mazda MX-30 R-EV stands out from the crowd and caters to the modern driver’s needs. Carefully developed proportions and exciting elements bring this car to life, such as the freestyle doors and driver-centric cockpit, for a one-of-a-kind crossover vehicle crafted in Japan.

The combination of the 17.8kw battery and 50-litre fuel tank create a unique plug-in hybrid with a flexible total range of over 400 miles. Another benefit of the MX-30 R-EV is its compatibility with both AC and rapid DC charging, meaning that 3-phase AC charging takes around 50mins, while for maximum flexibility, DC rapid charging can be completed in around 25 minutes.

Rotary Engine Extends The Electric Experience.

The rotary engine is the ideal petrol-powered engine to maintain the electric charge in a vehicle that is exclusively powered by an electric motor. It combines the benefits of being lightweight, nearly vibration free and, since it doesn’t power the wheels directly, it can always run at the ideal load speed for optimal efficiency.

Between the launch of the Mazda Cosmo in 1967 and production of the RX-8 ending in 2012, Mazda mass-produced more than 2 million rotary engines, making them experts in in developing electric driving choices.

Driving Modes.

You have the choice of three different drive-modes to suit different driving situations: Normal, EV and Charge. Plus, thanks to the 125kw/170ps output, it delivers slightly better acceleration performance than the fully electric MX-30.

Normal mode delivers electric drive as long as there’s enough battery charge. If more power is required than the battery level can deliver – for example, when accelerating – the rotary engine generator will activate based on the degree of accelerator opening and supply the battery with more power. You can turn EV mode on when you want to use electric drive exclusively, and Charge mode can be used to safeguard the necessary amount of battery for situations, such as the need to save zero emissions running for particular urban environments.

Meet Edition R.

The MX-30 R-EV Edition R commemorates the return of the rotary engine. Mazda was the first in the world to successfully commercialise the two-rotor rotary engine. ‘Edition R’ represents the “never stop challenging spirit” and holds a special place in Mazda history.

With only 400 examples in the UK, the MX-30 R-EV Edition R has the following exclusive features:

Embossed seat headrests:

The headrests of the vegan leather seats are embossed with an image of the Mazda MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV emblem and the Edition R logo.

Orange interior elements:

The stylish floormats feature orange stitching and orange tags that represent the energy generated by the Rotary engine. The driver and front passenger floormats include an additional chrome-plated badge with the Mazda MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV logo.

Unique key fob:

The key fob of the Edition R also pays tribute to the rotary engine with the Edition R logo and sculpted sides with a shiny finish. In addition, the front and back panels curve at the same angle as the sides of the engine’s rotors.

Rapid charging in just 26 minutes:

Using a 50kW rapid charger, you can top up from 20%-80% in just 26 minutes.

Compatible with public charging:

Mazda MX-30 uses the most common charging connector types for slow and fast AC charging, and rapid DC charging.

All cables are included:

AC cables are included for charging at home or out and about. Rapid DC chargers will always have cables attached.
