Mazda CX-60 named Best Large SUV in the Diesel&EcoCar Magazine Diesel Top 50

The Mazda CX-60 has been named Best Large SUV in the 2024 Diesel&EcoCar Magazine Diesel Top 50, where it secured third place overall. Additionally, Mazda won the first-ever Editor’s Award for innovation, recognising the 3.3-litre in-line six-cylinder e-Skyactiv D MHEV engine featured in the CX-60 and the upcoming Mazda CX-80.

Diesel&EcoCar Editor Ian Robertson praised Mazda's leap to a more premium market, noting that the CX-60 offers a smooth and efficient six-cylinder diesel engine equipped with 48-volt mild hybrid technology, achieving over 55mpg. Available in both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive options with 200ps and 254ps outputs, respectively, the vehicle delivers a powerful driving experience, complemented by Mazda’s high-quality, spacious interiors.

Mazda’s Editor’s Award for Innovation acknowledges its persistence in diesel technology despite market shifts. Robertson commented that the e-Skyactiv D engine is among the cleanest diesels globally, thanks to its advanced combustion technology, and praised its towing capacity of up to 2.5 tonnes.

Offered in three trims—Exclusive-Line, Homura, and Takumi—the CX-60’s design integrates the latest Kodo design principles with a strong front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. The model emphasises Mazda’s "right solution at the right time" philosophy, making the CX-60 e-Skyactiv-D MHEV an ideal choice for long-distance drivers or those needing towing capabilities.

The 3.3-litre engine, designed with "right-sizing" to optimise power and efficiency, is available with 200ps and 450Nm of torque for rear-wheel drive and 254ps with 550Nm for all-wheel drive. Both options incorporate Mazda’s M Hybrid Boost system, contributing to the model’s fuel efficiency and low emissions.

The CX-60’s 200ps rear-wheel-drive version returns 56.5mpg with CO2 emissions of 129g/km, while the AWD 254ps variants deliver 53.3mpg and emissions from 137g/km. Its six-cylinder design offers superior refinement and balance, ensuring smooth performance, minimal vibrations, and quiet operation. Additionally, its lightweight build enhances handling, further solidifying Mazda's focus on driving pleasure and efficiency.

Mazda Motors UK Managing Director Jeremy Thomson emphasised that the award highlights the brand’s multi-solution approach, making the CX-60 an excellent choice for customers seeking efficiency, long-distance driving, and towing capabilities.
