Mazda CX-80 Awarded Best in Class Large SUV by Euro NCAP

The all-new Mazda CX-80 has been crowned Best in Class Large SUV by Euro NCAP in its latest round of safety tests, highlighting Mazda’s dedication to safety and cutting-edge innovation.

In 2024, Euro NCAP evaluated 44 vehicles, with the Mazda CX-80 emerging as the top performer in the Large SUV category, narrowly surpassing the Audi Q6 e-tron. This recognition underscores Mazda’s unwavering commitment to providing the highest levels of safety for its customers.

Exceptional Safety Scores

The Mazda CX-80 achieved impressive results across all four Euro NCAP safety evaluation areas:

  • Adult Occupant Protection: 92%, with perfect scores in Lateral and Rear Impact tests.
  • Child Occupant Protection: 88%, ensuring maximum safety for younger passengers.
  • Vulnerable Road Users: 84%, demonstrating Mazda’s dedication to pedestrian and cyclist safety.
  • Safety Assist: 79%, reflecting its suite of advanced safety technologies.

A New Flagship SUV

The Mazda CX-80 blends its safety credentials with comfort, versatility, and performance, making it a standout in the seven-seat SUV segment. Built in Japan, the CX-80 showcases Mazda’s design and engineering excellence. Its spacious interior, premium materials, and dynamic driving experience place it among Europe’s top-tier SUVs.

The model’s five-star Euro NCAP rating is bolstered by Mazda’s Skyactiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture, which enhances driving dynamics with a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout and rear-biased all-wheel drive.

Powertrain and Dimensions

The Mazda CX-80 shares its powertrain options with the CX-60:

  1. Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV): Combines a 2.5-litre Skyactiv-G petrol engine with a 129kW electric motor and a 17.8kWh battery.
  2. 3.3-Litre e-Skyactiv D Diesel: An advanced in-line six-cylinder engine delivering 254ps.

Both options are paired exclusively with all-wheel drive.

Dimensionally, the CX-80 features a wheelbase 250mm longer than the CX-60, creating space for a practical three-row interior. The CX-80 is also 26mm taller, providing additional headroom while maintaining the CX-60’s familiar width and styling.

Configurations and Features

UK customers can choose from five highly specified grades: Exclusive-Line, Homura, Takumi, Homura Plus, and Takumi Plus. For maximum flexibility, the CX-80 offers three middle-row configurations:

  • A standard seven-seat layout with a three-person bench.
  • Optional six-seat layouts with either walk-through captain’s seats or a fixed centre console.

Increased dimensions provide greater passenger comfort, with more shoulder room, headroom, and legroom compared to the CX-60.

Advanced technology includes Alexa* integration for voice control of music, air-conditioning, navigation, and third-party apps, enhancing convenience and connectivity.

Refined Design

The Mazda CX-80’s exterior design, inspired by Mazda’s Kodo - Soul of Motion philosophy, emphasises elegance and strength. Key design elements include:

  • Sleek side windows with straighter D-pillar frames to emphasise the third row.
  • Integrated roof rails that highlight the extended cabin.
  • A cohesive profile showcasing the CX-80’s increased length.

Advanced Safety Systems

Based on Mazda’s Proactive Safety philosophy, the CX-80 features comprehensive i-Activsense driver-assistance technologies, including:

  • Cruising & Traffic Support (CTS): With new Unresponsive Driver Support.
  • Smart Brake Support: Featuring Head-on Collision Mitigation.
  • Emergency Lane Keeping: With Head-on Traffic Avoidance Assist.

These systems ensure top-tier active safety, supporting the model’s five-star Euro NCAP safety rating and its Best in Class Large SUV title.
