Scotland Revealed as the Safest Place to Drive in the UK

A new survey has been released that talks about the safest places in the UK to drive. Scotland leads the charge with six of these locations.

With so many roads and places to drive in the UK, one can’t help but wonder where the safest places to go are. If you want the best statistical chance to avoid an accident or injury, it’s worth noting that there are 10 locations that stand out from the rest.

A Win For Scotland

It is interesting to see that Scotland features most heavily on this list out of all the possible locations considered to be safe. For example, they occupy the top slot with Perth and Kinross.

It was found that on average, between 2013 and 2022, there were only 122 collisions on average per billion vehicles. This is an incredibly low number, and 2019 stood out as the lowest overall, with only 78 collisions per billion vehicles.

It’s worth noting that Scotland actually holds the distinct pleasure of being both the safest and least safe place on the list. The number 10 slot, which is the least safe place on the list, is East Renfrewshire, also located in Scotland. This has 163 collisions per billion vehicles on average.

Why So Safe?

So, when it comes to safety, what is it that makes areas of Scotland so heavily safe for people to drive? Well, there are a few different reasons why this might be the case.

Scotland has always been quick to adapt new ideas and policies regarding safe driving. Whether it’s volunteering to be the test area for a series of speed limit restrictions or being among the first places to roll out new technologies designed to counteract traffic offences, Scotland certainly seems committed to protecting people from the risk of harm.

Perhaps we should all strive to be as responsible on the roads as people in Scotland seem to be. Of the 10 safest places, Scotland appears six times, which is a considerable achievement.

Road Safety - The Ongoing Issue

The big problem with road safety is that it is an ongoing issue. We are always looking for new ways for people to be safe on the roads because so many people are now at risk of injury from driving a car. With only a growing number of people using the roads, it’s clear that road safety policies need something of an overhaul.

Whatever Scotland is doing, it’s clearly working. It’s wholly possible that they should be held up as an example of how to be safe on the roads. Considering the growing number of people that do drive on a regular basis, there has to be some meaningful change made if we’re going to reduce the number of road traffic collisions. Naturally this is a process that will take a bit of time, but there is a clear frame to be taken from Scotland’s enthusiasm to implement new strategies.
