Crafted in Japan, the beautifully designed Mazda MX-30 R-EV is driven purely by its electric motor and offers uninterrupted electric driving excitement with Mazda-unique handling.
The plug-in hybrid joins the pure electric Mazda MX-30 e-Skyactiv in Mazda’s electrified line-up. It comes equipped with a 17.8kWh battery and has a 53-mile pure electric range. The MX-30 R-EV uses an all-new 830cc single-rotor petrol engine as a generator to enable longer distance drivers without range or charging anxiety. With no mechanical connection between the engine and the wheels, the rotary engine simply acts as a generator, ensuring the MX-30 R-EV always drives via the electric motor to deliver a seamless EV driving experience.
The MX-30 R-EV Edition R commemorates the return of the rotary engine. Mazda was the first in the world to successfully commercialise the two-rotor rotary engine, and Edition R represents the “never stop challenging spirit” that holds a special place in Mazda history.
There are only 400 of these models available in the UK which include exclusive features such as the embossed seat headrests, orange interior elements, and a unique key fob. The headrests are adorned with an image of the MX-30 R-EV emblem and the Edition R logo, whilst the floormats feature orange stitching and tags that represent the energy generated by the rotary engine.
Alongside Edition R, the MX-30 R-EV will be offered in the same Prime-Line, Exclusive-Line and Makoto specifications as the all-electric Mazda MX-30.
The rotary engine of the MX-30 R-EV is the ideal petrol-powered engine to maintain the electric charge in a vehicle that is exclusively powered by an electric motor. It combines the benefits of being lightweight, nearly vibration free and, since it doesn’t power the wheels directly, it can always run at the ideal speed for optimal efficiency. You can also enjoy being able to rapid charge from 20-80% with a 50kW charger in just 26 minutes.
If you need to go further, the Mazda MX-30 R-EV has you covered. The introduction of Mazda’s lightweight rotary engine is used as an onboard generator to recharge the battery when it runs low, meaning you can keep driving for over 400 miles. When driving further, you have the choice of three different drive modes to suit your different driving situations: Normal, EV and Charge.
Normal mode delivers electric drive as long as there’s enough battery charge, and you can turn EV mode on when you want to use the electric drive exclusively. Charge mode can be used to safeguard the necessary amount of battery for situations, such as the need to save zero emissions running for particular urban environments.
