Meet the New Volkswagen ID. Tiguan

Volkswagen is taking one of its best-known names into the electric era with the world premiere of the new ID. Tiguan.

Arriving in early 2027, the all-electric SUV will succeed the ID.4 and ID.5 and sit alongside the existing Tiguan with petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

With a completely new design, a significantly upgraded interior, advanced technology and an electric range of up to 600 km (around 373 miles), the ID. Tiguan represents the next generation of Volkswagen electric SUVs.

A new chapter for the Tiguan

The Tiguan is one of Volkswagen’s most successful models worldwide, while more than 950,000 examples of the ID.4 and ID.5 have been produced.

The new ID. Tiguan brings these two success stories together, combining the practicality and versatility associated with the Tiguan name with Volkswagen’s latest electric vehicle technology.

Its new exterior introduces Volkswagen’s latest Pure Positive design language, giving the ID. Tiguan a stronger and more confident SUV appearance. Precise lines and sculpted surfaces create a premium look, while classic pull-style door handles also make a return.

Up to 600 km of electric range

The new Volkswagen ID. Tiguan will be available with three different powertrain configurations:

  • 140 kW (190 PS) rear-wheel drive with a 58 kWh battery
  • 210 kW (286 PS) rear-wheel drive with a 77 kWh battery
  • 220 kW (299 PS) 4MOTION all-wheel drive with a 77 kWh battery

Depending on the battery and powertrain, the ID. Tiguan will offer a WLTP range of up to 600 km (around 373 miles).

Practicality remains a priority too. The ID. Tiguan can tow up to 1,800 kg with the 58 kWh battery and up to 2,000 kg with the larger 77 kWh battery.

Designed for everyday life

Inside, there is plenty of space for five people, with a luggage compartment offering up to 534 litres of capacity.

For the first time, the ID. Tiguan also features a 32-litre front luggage compartment, or frunk, providing additional storage beneath the bonnet.

The new model will be offered in four equipment versions: Trend, Life, Style and R-Line.

A completely redesigned interior

The interior of the ID. Tiguan represents a major step forward in design, materials and technology.

At the centre is a new digital cockpit featuring a 10-inch Digital Cockpit and a large 15-inch central infotainment display.

For the first time in a European Volkswagen, an optional 12-inch co-driver display is also available. Its privacy technology means the front passenger can access entertainment, information and gaming without distracting the driver.

Volkswagen has also responded to customer feedback by bringing physical controls back to a number of key areas. The multifunction steering wheel once again features physical buttons, while frequently used climate functions can be controlled through a dedicated button bar in the centre console.

Two Qi2-compatible inductive smartphone charging points are also positioned at the front of the cabin.

Volkswagen history meets new technology

One of the most distinctive new features is the ID. Tiguan’s Retro display.

Drivers can transform the Digital Cockpit with instruments inspired by the Volkswagen Golf IV, including its recognisable blue and red appearance.

The central infotainment system can also display a virtual garage featuring six famous Volkswagen models: the Golf I, Golf II Country, Golf IV, Tiguan I, Race Touareg and Beetle.

It is a modern electric SUV with a nod to Volkswagen’s history.

Advanced driver assistance

A range of new technologies has been developed to make everyday driving easier.

The ID. Tiguan features one-pedal driving as standard, allowing strong deceleration using the accelerator pedal alone.

The latest Connected Travel Assist can provide assistance with functions including lane changes on motorways and can automatically bring the vehicle to a stop at red traffic lights.

Comfort for longer journeys

A selection of optional features will allow customers to make the ID. Tiguan even more comfortable.

Available equipment includes electrically adjustable front seats with massage, memory and ventilation functions, a panoramic sunroof and a 480-watt Harman Kardon premium sound system.

Your smartphone becomes your key

The ID. Tiguan will also offer a Digital Key, allowing a compatible smartphone to be used to unlock, lock and start the vehicle.

Access can be shared with family members, friends or colleagues through the Volkswagen app using text message, messenger services or email.

Another practical feature is Vehicle-to-Load capability. Using the available PowerSocket adapter, the ID. Tiguan can provide power to external electrical equipment, from e-bikes to other compatible devices.

When will the Volkswagen ID. Tiguan arrive?

The new Volkswagen ID. Tiguan is scheduled to launch in early 2027, joining the existing Tiguan range and expanding Volkswagen’s next generation of electric vehicles.

With up to 600 km of range, 4MOTION all-wheel drive available, a completely redesigned interior and increased everyday practicality, the ID. Tiguan brings a familiar Volkswagen name into a new electric era.
