VOLKSWAGEN ID. POLO WINS FIRST UK AWARD

Volkswagen’s next-generation small electric car has made an impressive debut, with the all-new ID. Polo picking up its very first UK award — less than a month after being revealed at the Munich Motor Show.

The upcoming model, due to arrive in 2026, was named “One to Watch” at the News UK Motor Awards, recognising it as the most eagerly anticipated car of the year among automotive experts from The Times, The Sunday Times, The Sun and talkSPORT.

Will Dron, Digital Driving Editor at The Times and The Sunday Times, said:

“The mere fact the Polo name lives on into the electric era is enough to get excited about. But there’s more to look forward to than that: a choice of batteries offering up to 280 miles of range, attractive pricing potential, and the use of more sustainable materials and construction processes have certainly whetted our appetites. The confirmation that we’ll also get an ID. Polo GTI is the icing on the cake. Without doubt, the ID. Polo is our One to Watch.”

Awards also for Golf, Tiguan and ID.7

Volkswagen’s success didn’t stop there. The Golf, Tiguan, and ID.7 all collected major accolades in recent days, adding to the brand’s already impressive 2025 trophy cabinet.

At the Diesel and Eco Car Awards, the Golf was crowned Best Diesel Medium Car, while the Tiguan took home Best Diesel Medium SUV.
Editor Ian Robertson praised both models, noting:

“A facelift has revitalised the Golf, keeping this icon sharp as it approaches its sixth decade. The latest 2.0-litre TDI engine is smooth, frugal and remains the benchmark medium hatchback.”
He added:
“The latest Tiguan has moved upmarket with sleeker looks, more space and improved technology. Its practicality, performance and quality make it the SUV that simply works.”

Meanwhile, the Volkswagen ID.7 was named Best EV 2025 at the Leasing.com Awards.
Leasing.com CEO Mike Fazal commented:

“The Volkswagen ID.7 shows just how far EVs have come — combining practicality, range, and genuine desirability. It’s been one of the standout electric vehicles of the year.”

A year of award-winning success

These latest honours join a growing list of awards for Volkswagen models throughout 2025, including multiple What Car?, Autocar, Autotrader, and Fleet awards across the line-up — from the Passat and Golf, to the ID.7 Tourer, Polo, ID.4, and T-Roc.

From electric innovation to diesel efficiency and hybrid versatility, Volkswagen continues to set the benchmark across every segment — and the ID. Polo’s first UK accolade is a clear sign of more exciting things to come.
