Volkswagen has received major recognition at the prestigious 2026 What Car? Awards, with three standout models taking home top honours. The new Volkswagen T-Roc was named Best Small SUV, while the ID.7 Tourer retained its title as Best Electric Estate for the second consecutive year. The ID. Buzz also impressed judges, winning Best Seven-Seat MPV.
These awards highlight Volkswagen’s continued strength across a wide range of vehicle segments, from compact SUVs to innovative electric models.
The all-new Volkswagen T-Roc secured the award for Best Small SUV, reinforcing its position as one of the most popular models in the Volkswagen line-up.
The latest generation builds on the success of its predecessor with bold design updates, new colour options, a more refined interior and improved space for passengers and luggage. The model also introduces advanced driver assistance systems typically found in higher vehicle classes, with plans for a new full hybrid powertrain in the future.
The T-Roc has been a huge success globally since its launch in 2017, with more than two million units sold worldwide, making it Volkswagen’s second best-selling SUV after the Tiguan.
Steve Huntingford, Editor of What Car?, commented:
"Inside, the new Volkswagen T-Roc feels much classier than its predecessor thanks to improved materials and sharper technology. At the same time, it retains the relaxed driving manners that have always been its strength. Its quiet cabin and comfortable ride are now among the best in the small SUV class."
Volkswagen’s ID.7 Tourer was once again recognised as the Best Electric Estate, successfully defending the title it first won last year.
Judges praised the model for its impressive range, practicality and refined driving experience. With an official range of up to 422 miles, the ID.7 Tourer offers one of the longest ranges in its class while maintaining excellent comfort and ride quality.
As Volkswagen’s first fully electric estate car, the ID.7 Tourer combines aerodynamic efficiency with everyday practicality. The spacious boot offers up to 605 litres of luggage capacity, expanding to 1,714 litres with the rear seats folded, making it an ideal choice for longer journeys and family use.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles also celebrated success at the awards, with the ID. Buzz taking the title of Best Seven-Seat MPV.
Blending retro-inspired design with modern electric technology, the ID. Buzz offers exceptional practicality and comfort. The model features a large 86 kWh battery providing an all-electric range of up to 292 miles, while its spacious interior and flexible seating make it ideal for families and adventure seekers alike.
Steve Huntingford added:
"The Volkswagen ID. Buzz is one of the biggest and most practical MPVs available today. It delivers the comfort and refinement of a luxury SUV while standing out with its distinctive design and strong resale values."
Volkswagen continues to perform strongly in the UK market. In 2025, 178,607 new Volkswagen passenger vehicles were registered, giving the brand a market share of 8.84% and making Volkswagen the UK’s best-selling new car brand for the fifth consecutive year.
