Nissan and Wayve Sign Landmark Agreements to Deliver Next-Generation Driver Assistance Technology

Western & Barnetts Nissan is excited to share major news from Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., as the brand announces a pioneering partnership set to transform the future of intelligent mobility. Nissan and UK-based AI company Wayve have signed definitive agreements to integrate advanced AI-powered driver assistance technology into a wide range of future Nissan vehicles.

This global collaboration aims to bring next-generation, AI-driven driver assistance to mass-produced vehicles, marking a significant milestone in making cutting-edge autonomous driving technologies accessible to everyday motorists.

Advancing the Future of ProPILOT

Since the introduction of ProPILOT in 2016 - initially developed for single-lane highway assistance - Nissan has continued to push boundaries. ProPILOT 2.0 arrived in 2019 with multi-lane support and hands-off capability, expanding availability across numerous models to meet the diverse needs of customers worldwide.

Building on this foundation, Nissan is developing its next-generation ProPILOT system using Wayve’s embodied AI software. In September 2025, Nissan unveiled a prototype showcasing ‘Wayve AI Driver’ integrated with Nissan’s advanced “Ground Truth Perception” technology and next-generation LiDAR. This cutting-edge system demonstrated smooth, safe assistance on both highways and complex urban roads.

Under the new agreement, the two companies will integrate ‘Wayve AI Driver’ into upcoming ProPILOT systems, enabling deployment across mass-produced Nissan models. The goal is to enhance functionality, improve convenience, and deliver these advanced technologies to key global markets - including Japan and North America. Nissan plans to launch its first model featuring this next-generation ProPILOT in Japan in fiscal year 2027.

A Major Step Forward for Autonomous Mobility

This partnership represents a breakthrough for both companies. Nissan becomes the first global automaker to commit to deploying Wayve’s embodied AI at scale across multiple vehicle segments. Wayve’s end-to-end AI platform is designed with safety at its core and can adapt rapidly to new cities, road conditions, and vehicle platforms with minimal additional development. Combined with Nissan’s ProPILOT sensor suite - including cameras, radar, and LiDAR - it promises intelligent, adaptable driving performance suitable for a wide range of models.

Deploying this technology in mass-produced vehicles will enable both companies to gather and learn from diverse real-world driving environments, supporting ongoing improvement and strengthening Nissan’s position as a leader in intelligent mobility.
