Nissan Sets Long-Term Direction with Vision of “Mobility Intelligence for Everyday Life”

Western & Barnetts Nissan is sharing the latest global vision from Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., outlining a bold long-term strategy designed to transform mobility through artificial intelligence, electrification, and next-generation customer experiences.

The announcement introduces Nissan’s new direction under the vision of “Mobility Intelligence for Everyday Life”, placing customer experience at the heart of future product development while accelerating the shift toward intelligent, electrified vehicles.

A Customer-Centric Vision for the Future

Nissan’s long-term strategy focuses on integrating advanced mobility intelligence into everyday driving through AI-Defined Vehicles (AIDV), combining electrification with intelligent systems designed to make driving safer, more intuitive, and more enjoyable.

As part of this strategy, Nissan aims to significantly expand its use of advanced technologies across its future model line-up while continuing to offer a range of electrified powertrains tailored to different customer needs.

Ivan Espinosa, President and CEO, said:
“This is the right moment to articulate Nissan’s long-term vision as we look beyond the Re:Nissan plan and set a clear path for the future. Our vision defines where Nissan is headed, with customer experience as our guiding priority. By advancing mobility intelligence, we will deliver products and technologies that are safer, more intuitive and more accessible with outstanding value and a more rewarding overall experience.”

He added that Nissan’s current transformation plan remains firmly on track as the company builds a foundation for future growth.

AI and Electrification at the Core

Artificial intelligence will play a central role in Nissan’s future vehicles, with the introduction of Nissan AI Drive and Nissan AI Partner technologies designed to enhance both driving capability and everyday usability.

The company aims to introduce Nissan AI Drive technology across 90% of its future model range over the long term.

Next-generation driver assistance systems will also continue to evolve, with upcoming models incorporating increasingly advanced autonomous capabilities.

Alongside AI innovation, electrification remains a key pillar of Nissan’s strategy. Technologies such as e-POWER will continue to provide an electric driving experience without the need to plug in, acting as a bridge towards full electrification.

Nissan will also expand its range of electrified powertrains, including hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and range-extender solutions developed through partnerships, ensuring customers benefit from a wide range of options.

Streamlined Global Product Strategy

Nissan is simplifying its global product portfolio from 56 to 45 models, focusing investment on higher-performing segments and expanding powertrain choice across its range.

Models will be structured into four key categories:

  • Heartbeat: Emotional, iconic models that define Nissan’s identity
  • Core: High-volume global models
  • Growth: Emerging market opportunities
  • Partner: Collaborative models extending market reach

This strategy aims to improve development speed, increase efficiency, and strengthen overall competitiveness.

Key Models Showcasing Nissan’s Future

Several upcoming models highlight the direction of Nissan’s future line-up, including electrified and performance-focused vehicles designed for global markets.

These include:

  • All-new X-Trail / Rogue Hybrid e-POWER
  • All-new JUKE EV
  • Xterra
  • Skyline

The all-new X-Trail / Rogue Hybrid e-POWER continues Nissan’s leadership in electrified hybrid systems, while the JUKE EV brings full electrification to one of Europe’s most distinctive compact crossovers.

Strengthening Global Markets

Nissan is also reshaping its global strategy around three key lead markets: Japan, the United States, and China.

Each plays a critical role in driving innovation, production, and global competitiveness:

Japan will serve as a technology hub for advanced systems such as next-generation ProPILOT.
The United States will focus on large vehicles, manufacturing strength, and returning to one million annual sales by 2030.
China will act as a development and export hub for new energy vehicles, targeting one million annual sales by 2030.

These markets will anchor Nissan’s global operations while supporting growth across Europe, India, Africa, and other regions.

Leadership Commentary

Summarising the vision, Ivan Espinosa said:
“As we continue on our path to recovery, it is essential that Nissan demonstrates our relentless focus on serving the customer, seizing the opportunities provided by AI technologies, expanding electrification and driving innovation into our vehicles to deliver sustainable market growth.”

Looking Ahead

Nissan will provide further updates on its Re:Nissan transformation at its full-year results in May, with additional strategic announcements expected later in the year.

Western & Barnetts Nissan will continue to keep customers informed as Nissan’s electrified and intelligent vehicle strategy develops, bringing the future of mobility closer to everyday driving.
