Do You Know The Most Popular Car Colour In The UK?

It turns out it’s not only the weather that’s grey in the UK! The colour is also the most popular choice for cars, topping the annual Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) survey for a seventh consecutive year.

2024 saw just under 28% of all new car registrations coming from grey cars, the highest-ever share and a jump of 6.7% compared to 2023. Black came in second, with blue appearing in the top three for the first time in 14 years.

This is the first time there has been a change in the top three in seven years, with the three victors accounting for 65.5% of all vehicles sold in the UK. Just off the podium was white in fourth, while red came in fifth.

In total, the survey found that drivers had a choice of 93 colours in 2024, highlighting an extensive range, but pink, maroon and turquoise remained the least popular, accounting for just 747 registrations.

The results were consistent across the UK, with grey coming out top in every region and country and black second – apart from on the Isle of Man and Channel Islands, which saw white come in second..
